St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein). From seeking the Truth to finding the Cross

Abstract
Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, or Edith Stein, born (1891) in a German Jewish family, murdered (1942) in the gas chamber in Auschwitz-Birkenau, proclaimed saint and patroness of Europe (1999) by John Paul II, sought the truth throughout his life. Dreaming of happiness and fame, she immersed herself in the whirlwind of intellectual adventure, studying German studies, history, psychology and philosophy. However, as she stated by herself, it was not philosophy that led her to know God. Ultimately, she found Him in Catholicism, in the mystery of the Cross of Christ as the source of knowledge (wisdom), love and salvation. The study presents an outline of the Saint’s intellectual and spiritual struggles based on significant events in her life. The method of analysis and interpretation of historical and hagiological sources was used.
