Mischief as Reason for Refusal of the Church Funeral in the light of polish diocesan synods

Abstract

The aim of the presented analysis was to explain the probable situation when the refusal of the Church funeral takes place. It happens in case of public sinners to which the Church includes primarily suiciders and those who cohabit in nonsacramental union, which is civil marriage. Were the funeral of such persons brought a possibility of mischief amongst faithful, it should be refused. This, however, should be incidentary. The resolutions of Polish diocesan synods, as indicated in the paper, explicitly show the procedures for such situations.
