The need for spiritual values in family upbringing

Abstract

In the era of pluralistic approach to the issue of upbringing in the family, the author clearly appears as a Christian personalist. In the era of thinking characterised by the fact that nothing is clear and obvious, the author also considers it necessary to clearly define the family model, which is correct for him. Such a family model is read from the Constitution of the Republic of Poland of April 2, 1997, in Article 18, where stands: “Marriage as a union between a man and a woman, family, motherhood and parenthood are under the protection and care of the Republic of Poland”. (1) It is clear from the text that there is no family without marriage. (2) Next, the woman – motherhood, has been appreciated. (3) The Constitution also takes into account the role of the father in the family – parenthood – there is no parenthood without the father’s participation. From the pastoral and educational point of view, the most important thing is to discover the causes of correct or incorrect relations between spouses, then it is possible to determine their impact on the upbringing of children. The subject of upbringing is a child as a person, perceived integrally: at the biological, psychological and spiritual level. If there is a lack of proper upbringing on any of these levels, a person will be missing something. The author in this article shows the need to implement the main spiritual values in family upbringing. Following the Catholic Encyclopaedia (vol. 4, Lublin 1983, col. 317–330), the author defines “Christian spirituality” as the sum of values that develop in man in the perspective of maturing towards God, starting from baptism to full union with Christ and the Church.
