Proclaiming Christ through the written word

Abstract

The article deals with the issue of preaching the person and work of Jesus Christ through the writings. Jesus himself did not leave behind any written text. He wanted to be remembered and proclaimed by his disciples. They did so both through oral proclamation and the written text. The article delivers some selected apostolic texts as well as some statements and experiences of the Fathers of the Church concerning the discussed issue. Then the evangelistic value of writing is discussed on the example of the conversion of Edith Stein and her writing activity. It shows the importance of sharing with others one’s own experience of God. Finally, the values of preaching Christ in written text are numbered.
