Abstract

Most Trinitarian theology manuals do not make many references to the book of Revelation, when they examine the question of the Trinity in the New Testament. In the treaty De Deo uno et trino, most of the time, the text of the Apocalypse is almost not cited at all. The present article wishes to highlight this lack and offer a careful examination of the passages in which the Author of the Apocalypse describes the divine reality in a Trinitarian way. We re-read the text of the Apocalypse to grasp, in the very first liturgical experience of the ecclesial community, this living presence of the Trinity. Countless passages have been identified, in which the Author describes the perception of God in his Trinitarian identity. The Apocalypse is a complex book and difficult to decipher, but the secret revealed and the mystery revealed – “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to him” (Rev 1, 1) – concerns precisely the name of God, his threefold coming nature, the Trinitarian relationships ad intra and ad extra and the type of logic proper to the Trinity before which the Satan has organized itself with his own triadic formation. The strength with which the three Divine Persons govern the world is, however, omnipotent, such that it has already defeated Satan in Heaven and now they are conquering it, here, on earth, asking, from the heavenly throne, the Church to reign with Them. The symbolism of the Apocalypse is yet to be discovered but it promises to make us know even more about the Face of the Triune God.
