Abstract

In the interwar period, the distinguished bishop of Płock, Antoni Julian Nowowiejski (1858–1941), held two diocesan synods: in 1927 and 1938. The synod from 1938, reiterated the synod statutes (with annexes) from 1927 to a significant extent, supplementing them with the provisions of the Polish plenary synod from 1936.

Statutes and annexes to the synod from 1938, the work of the zealous shepherd of the diocese, based on the Code of Canon Law, newly published in 1917, have for long years been a permanent reference point for the Płock bishops in their legislative and administrative activities, and for the functioning of the Bishop’s Curia, Ecclesiastical court and the activity of all diocesan clergy. Its norms significantly contributed to the reception of canons of the Code of Canon Law in the diocese of Płock.
