Religiousness of Wroclaw academic youth, based on a sample of „case study” in accordance with the practice of the sacrament of confession

Abstract

When we are considering the phenomenon of discontinuing the practice of sacrament of confession among the faithful of catholic Church, especially in European countries on West, a certain questions comes to mind. Is this sacrament no longer needed? Is sacrament of confession beneficial, or is it a meaningless practice? To answer these questions, a survey among students in Wroclaw was conducted. This paper aims to answer the question stated in the survey: which areas of religiousness are shaped by practice of confession in academic youth? By referring to the concept of religiousness of Cz. Walesa, it was decided to prove in this paper, that sacrament of penance and reconciliation is shaping religiousness of academic youth in such areas as: religious awarness, religious feelings, religious decisions, sense of connection with the community of Church, religious practices, religious morality and religious experience. The research presented in this paper, conducted on a group of young adults, showed that the practice of the sacrament of confession is an important religious practice in the process of shaping their religiosity. Undoubtedly, a great challenge, but also a great opportunity, is to make this social group aware of the impact of the sacrament of confession on the process of conversion and reaching maturity in the human and Christian aspect, and thus the achievement of eternal life in heaven.
