Understanding of the Primacy of Peter in Catholic and Orthodox theology. An outline of situation

Abstract

One of the main matters of dispute between the Catholic and Orthodox Church is the understanding of papal seat. The author of this article set himself an aim to show the understanding of the Primacy of Peter by both Christian communities. Otherwise, there is an attempt to answer a question: is present understanding of pope’s seat an assistance or an obstacle with full unity of Western and Eastern Churches? The discrepancies in understanding primacy by the Catholics and the Orthodox Christians and present deeper awareness and more understanding of ecumenical spirit make the constructive dialogue on sensitive issues as the Primacy of Peter between the representatives of divided Church possible.
