Abstract

The first Orthodox Christians came to Poland in 16 th century. One of the most significant ecumenical events in the current history was the visit of Cyril I, Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus’ in Warsaw in 2012 and signing (with Abp. Józef Michalik, the then president of Polish Episcopal Conference) the common appeal to Polish and Russian people on the need of forgiveness.

Catholic Church in Poland works actively within the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue Between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. The Church in Poland was also the important participant of creating the document Faith, Sacraments and the Unity of the Church which was signed and proclaimed in Bari in 1987.

In the process of moving both Churches closer the issues of Filioque and pope’s primacy are still being unsolved.
