The XXI century points out the crucial changes in the functioning of the Polish family and marriage. Too rapid process of industralisation, the fast economic development as well as the cultural one has led to the situation, when the human has started to lose his identity and made various excuses for almost all unfulfilled duties. It is observed that the family has begun to approach towards the disintegration which causes the lack of responsibility for oneself and the children. In such a situation the young generation is left alone nearly without any control and care. The children and the youth who are deprived of the parental care start to find such activities that can fill their times pleasantly. In this way, the young people begin to accept these life values that are full of populism, which are not right to the ethical and moral rules. All these negatives factors have a destructive impact on the correct functioning of the family and marriage.
The following social and economic processes and phenomena can be highly observed: the atomization of human’s life in various social groups; the growing conflicts and the aggressive behaviour among the social spheres, and the political and economic organizations; the disregard for the local authorities and other important figures in the local and global environment; the weakness of emotional bond among the human groups, especially, in the rural and urban areas; the financial emigration of the majority of society; the dynamic development of the Internet and Mass Media; the bigger popularization of the culture and the values from the highly civilised countries. Looking at the postindustrial family, we can observe the change in its structure. The typical model of the contemporary family is shown in a figure of 2+1, which means that the parents bring up an onlychild. It is much more visible, especially, if the spouses have a high economic, social and professional status. The direct cause of keeping up the procreative function is the improvment of the popularisation of the methods and ways of contraception, the late level of birth age of the first child by the women as well as the increasing role of the other family life’s values, mainly, such as the professional and the educational carreer, the meaning of the material, residential, cultural or consumer possessions. The disorder of the family structure is the result of the instability of the marriages too. Every fourth marriage (24.6%) ends in the divorce. The consequence of the breakdown of the marriages is, for instance, the rise of the occurence of incomplete families. There are various causes of the existence of incomplete families, illustration, the divorce of the parents, the death of one of the spouses and, also the individual woman’s choice of being the single parent as well.
