Scientific and discussion club „Krąg” on the way of rebirth of the Theological Society in Włocławek

Abstract

This article deals with the origin and activity of the scientific and discussion club at the diocesan seminary in Włocławek. It consists of three parts. The first one shows the foundation of the club (especially its purpose and tasks set by its founder and president, ks. Prof. Stanislaw Olejnik). The second part presents the participants of the club. They were primarily professors of the seminary in the number of twelve. Several other people attended these meetings occasionally. The third one reveals themes of scientific meetings, which can be reduced to four basic thematic groups: theological, biblical, ethical and moral theology, and philosophical issues.

The period of activity of this club (1979–1984) is a very significant time for the scientific community of the cleric professors in Włocławek. The „Krąg” club with its rich activity (35 scientific meetings) was in fact the first and most important stage in the re-establishment of the Theological Society in Włocławek.
